Libby Alley Personal Narrative

Hi, I’m Libby.  I’m eleven and I like drawing and babysitting.  I also play piano and I like writing stories.  I have five siblings and I never get tired of them.  Well, maybe sometimes.

The Best Part of 2014

It had been seven months since I first found out and I still couldn’t believe it.  We parked in the parking lot and everyone got out of our van.  My grandpa (we call him “Pop-Pop”) brought us to the doors.  I couldn’t stop smiling.  We went in and it took a while to get to my mom’s room, but we finally got there.  She looked exhausted but happy to see us.

I felt breathless.  It felt like I had found out I was going to have a sister only days ago.  “Hi guys!” Mom said, “Come see the baby!”  Everyone rushed to the crib and peeked in.  And there she was.  Our newest and smallest addition.  Violet.  She was really small, but we all had a big feeling of love when we laid our eyes on her.

When I held her for the first time, it was like holding a little angel as soft as a cloud.  I stroked her hair, kissed her little face, and held her hand.  We had to go home, but I got to come back two or three times after that.  Both times I didn’t want to leave.

Waiting for mom and dad to come home for two whole days was hard because we missed them so much and wanted to show Violet her new house.  When they got here and Dad parked the car everyone surrounded the doors.  Since then Violet has been wonderful and all of us are so happy to have a new little sister in the family.  To me, it was definitely the best part of 2014.

Two summers ago in the year 2014, the men in my family took a road trip out west. Now there was a lot of us, so we had to get a Recreational Vehicle. Or just an RV as most people call it. We spent most of the trip driving, and driving almost brought our trip to an end. Here is that exciting story told from my perspective.

Our mishap in this clunky, bulky, machine took place in the Grand Canyon. Now to get to our campsite in the national park, we had to drive up the side of the canyon! While driving up the road, we started to hear something strange coming form the RV. Before we knew it, we were on the side of the road and everything was off. Looking over the RV we realized that our engine had died, and we could not start the car at all. Because we were on a steep hill, we were able to put the car in neutral and roll back down the road.

The closest place place from our accident was a small inn called Jacob's Lake. We were devastated from our engine failure and sitting in this inn's parking lot for the next 18 hours was pretty rough. I thought our trip was completely over. Me and my cousins were all speculating on what would happen next. Most of us thought that we would have to head home, but I still held hope during our setback.
With my grandfathers insurance, we were able to call a tow truck for the RV. The next day we were greeted by a huge semi-truck ready to take our RV to the nearest city.

We finally got back to civilization in St. George, Utah which was three hours away from the inn's parking lot. We were dropped off at a mechanic who said he could have a new engine built into the RV in three days! Everybody was overjoyed at this news and could not wait to get back on the road. But the next question we asked was, what are we going to do for three days? So while the RV was being fixed, we were able to stay in a nice hotel during our short delay. The hotel was a lot of fun and we ate fast food for every meal. We also got to go see the Grand Canyon during the three days, which was one of the most spectacular sights I've ever seen. After our luxurious hotel stay was up, we successfully got back on the road to continue our trip.

After getting back on the road, our trip was a major success. We saw lots of cool things and didn't have anymore problems for the rest of the trip. I had a great experience during our misfortune, and learned a lot about patience.

Maya Kent Personal Narrative

Hi, I’m Maya Kent. I’m 11 years old, but I’m almost 12, and I am in 6th grade. I moved to the enormous city of Houston, Texas a couple of weeks ago from Tallahassee, Florida. I have a 13 year old sister, Olivia, a 7 year old sister, Ellie, and a 4 month old brother, Ethan.  I do gymnastics and I love it. I used to be on a swim team and I started tennis this year.  I love to be outside and climb trees, ride bikes and roller blade.  I also like to play piano do, crafts and draw. I love reading. My favorite books are the Harry Potter series, the Penderwicks and many of books by Wendy Mass. My favorite subjects are probably math and writing. I love the beach. I also like to bake and cook. My favorite food is pretty much any kind of Mexican food. My favorite color is purple, and my favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11.

Five years ago when I was 6 I had a not very fun experience. it was a great summer day when we lived in Michigan. Mom and dad had just gotten back from Florida because we were moving there that summer and they were looking at houses. We had a little pool that I was swimming in with my friend Alyssa and my sister Olivia. We had gotten containers out of the recycling and we were filling them with the water and dumping them on each other’s heads. We also had gotten a glass jar, but we didn’t know that it had been in the recycling because it was cracked.

After a while we dropped the glass jar somewhere in the pool. We couldn’t find it but we did not think it was a big deal so we stopped looking for it. A little while later I jumped off the ladder into the pool and I landed right on the glass jar. The jar had broken and the glass sliced into my foot. I remember seeing the water around my  left foot quickly turning red and I freaked out. I was screaming and crying. Alyssa and Olivia were freaking out too. I don’t remember much except that it was hurting extremely bad. My mom was on the phone and she heard us so she rushed out. We got my foot wrapped up in a beach towel. My dad carried me to the car and drove me to Emergency room.
When we got there we waited for a long time. My foot was still very painful and was bleeding, so we kept it wrapped up tightly. I had a huge gash in the side of my left foot. Finally, we got to go back. I laid in the hospital bed still in my wet and uncomfortable swim suit. But then we had to wait for the doctor. I knew I had to get stitches, but the idea of someone getting a needle and thread and sewing up my foot was not very appealing.
When the doctor came I held my dad’s hand tightly while he gave me a big shot right into the gash. That was very painful but after that my foot was numbed so I couldn’t feel my foot very much. My dad watched, but I didn’t, while I got stitches. I just remember crying. It did not take long  for the doctor to do that. Before we left the doctor put a bandage and gauze over my foot and then wrapped it up. Then I was wheeled outside in a wheelchair and helped into the car and we went home.
The next morning my friend Alyssa stopped by on her way to school to see if I was all right. I had to have my stitches for a couple of weeks after that. It was hard to do things I normally would because I could barely stand on my foot the first week without it hurting. We had to change my bandages often and put stuff on it. Lots of my friends even signed my wrap.
Finally, after a long couple of weeks I went to have my stitches out. Afterward, I still had to wear a special kind of bandage and wear closed toe shoes even though it was the middle of the summer and I normally wouldn’t wear shoes at all! The deep cut in my foot also left me a scar. At first it was much more noticeable than it is now, but you can still see it. This was definitely not my favorite experience or a fun one. It was also my first, and only, trip to the ER. But now I know one of the reasons why you’re not supposed to have glass jars on the beach or by the pool! I probably should have thought through what I was doing a little more because it was not a very safe thing to do. But at least next time I will have learned my lesson not to play with glass jars.

                                               A little bit about me

                                        My Baby Brother

Do you like babies? I do, that is why I was so happy to get a baby brother! My brother’s name is Ethan, and he is so cute and entertaining!  He has massive amounts of brown hair and he is so happy and cheerful all the time. I love to watch him grow and learn new things every day.
I was SO excited when I found out we were going to have a baby brother. I had wanted another baby in the family for a long time. I could hardly believe it until he was born!  My mom was sick when she was pregnant so we didn’t really get out of the house much.  Also, I had to make lunch most days, but that was okay because in the end Ethan came!
Ethan was born at 8:13 on Memorial Day which is May 25th.  The night he was born my sisters and I spent the night at our neighbors.  We were watching a movie and dad texted us to say that we had a little brother!  We were so thrilled, but we did not get to see Ethan until the next morning.  When morning came dad picked us up and brought us to the hospital. It was so exciting to see our brother for the very first time! He was big for a newborn weighing 8lbs. 10oz., and he had an unusual amount of dark hair, and the cutest little face!   We visited the hospital frequently those two days, and spent time at our friends’ houses.  Mom and Ethan were in the hospital for two days before they could come home.
The first few weeks Ethan slept most of the day, but we would all spend a good deal of time holding him.  As he got older he started staying awake more and kicking his little legs; he even learned to smile! Ethan gets so much attention from everyone!  He gets stronger every day. Ethan even learned to lean forward to sitting position, and he makes lots of noise!  A few weeks ago Ethan learned to roll over. And laugh! The older he gets the more fun he is to play with. We can make him laugh at tons of things. He loves it when he sees us jumping or dancing. He even is getting ticklish!  One of his most recent tricks is moving around on his tummy. If he sees a toy he wants, he will scoot forward a few feet to get it!
Ethan is so much fun to watch and play with, and he is the cutest baby I have ever seen! I am so glad we got a baby brother!  Although he is only 4 months old it feels like so long since he was born!  Our whole family loves baby Ethan!

Girl on a Mission- A Little Bit About Me

Hi, my name is Anna Palazzolo. I live in Katy, Texas, with my Dad, my Mom, and my two dogs, Daisy May and Dixie May.
I am on fire for Christ, and my goal in life is living for Him. Missions are my passion. Whenever I am serving people, I just feel at home. One of my biggest dreams/plans is being a long term missionary overseas. I believe that God has really called me to missions. One of my favorite Bible passages is John 21:15-19 :

15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”
“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”
16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”

My hobbies are: singing, music, acting, painting, embroidery, writing, tennis, baking, knitting, reading, dog training, and crafting.  Some fun facts about me are: I love everything about nature, I think dark chocolate and sour patch kids are the best candies in the world, I have a pixie cut that almost always has a little section of it dyed a fun color, I love to swim, I have always been a little bit of a tomboy, I think archery is really cool and would love to learn to be really good with a bow, and I am an absolute animal lover.

If you asked me to describe myself using only four words, I think I would choose:  Loving, Brave, Unique, and Adventurous.

Well, that about sums me up!

     Until Next Time,
     Anna Palazzolo,

Hello! I am Natalie Hawkins I’m 11 almost 12 years old. I love riding and hanging around horses. I have a 15 year old sister named Katelyn. She got an opportunity of a lifetime to train a two year old horse who has never been ridden before. Katelyn has just started riding him last Saturday and he is being really good for his first time riding. Katelyn and I try to go to horse training everyday. I have been riding a horse named Harry about everyday of the week! I enjoy drawing and reading. I could read for almost all day. Drawing is fun when I feel like doing it. We also go to a co op every friday for ten weeks in the fall and winter. I am helping in a class for the first time! I am learning a lot. I’m helping first hour in art, then I take myth busters second hour and last hour I take gym class. Right in this point in time we have really diving into horses and horse training. This story is about just that, horses.

It was a warm sunny afternoon, a perfect day for horse training. Katelyn was using a horse that our 4H leader owned. Her horse along with two others did not like being caught so they ran away every time we went to catch them. The horses had access to four paddocks, which made catching them very difficult. I often helped my sister catch her horse. On this day, my job was to stand in the middle of the paddock and if the horses would come near me I would wave my arms up and down and yell at them. They would stop so fast that dirt flew at me every time and then the horses would do a rollback (which is where the horse almost sits on their butt and then lifts up their front end and turns around) about 20 feet away from me and then run back to Katelyn. It worked well, Katelyn didn’t have to run all the way to the back paddock to catch them.
On this Wednesday my mom dropped us off and left to get gas real quick. I walked into the paddock as always and the horses went galloping off. As they were coming toward me I started shouting and jumping up and down. Sunny a big fat dull horse was running the fastest. Sunny stopped in front of me, he reared and then I heard Katelyn shout “RUN!!!!!!” as soon as I started to run he came running at me. I felt a huge thump on my chest and smelled horse sweat as strong as stinky cheese. The whole thing was such a blur. All I remember was falling and rolling on the ground looking up and seeing a million hoofs all jumbled around. It’s hard to explain what I felt after he ran me over. I remember not trying to get up. I scrambled backwards as fast as I could. I remember thinking I have to get out of he way, I can’t get ran over by one of the other horses. Katelyn came running up to me saying she needed to get help but I kept saying over and over again don’t leave me you can’t leave me with the horses. Just at that moment Susan and her friend Liz came running out of the house. As soon
as Liz got to me I felt searing pain in my knee and head. The adrenalin was leaving but the pain came. Liz asked where it hurt and when I told her she asked me to bend my knee. It hurt so bad I said I didn’t want to bend it again. Liz and Katelyn got me up and helped my walk out of the paddock and sit down. Liz called my mom and she came. When my mom got there she helped me into the car and we went to the hospital. My arm was bleeding right on the top of my elbow and I had a big scab on my head.
They checked me over and told me that I should get an x-ray on my knee. They took me into the x-ray room and laid me down on a hard table. The Doctors said that I only had external injuries and that I would heal just fine as long as I was careful. My family and I went out to eat that night at Bob Evans. We also had a 4h meeting that night. Our meeting was at Susan’s so I saw Sunny again. My 4h leader had me get on Sunny and ride him.  I was not scared, I knew that it was my fault and Sunny didn’t mean to run me over. I wasn’t mad at him just mad at myself. The horse that I was using for 4h fair did not come that night. My mom said that even though the Doctor said that I could ride whenever I wanted too she wanted me to rest. Fair started in four days and I was going to go. I had two black eyes, a bulging knee, scrapped arm and swollen head. My forehead was like memory foam. The first two days of fair I could barely wear my helmet. Putting on my hat was extremely painful. After that I had fun riding every day and meeting new friends (lots of them!). I didn’t let my pain and looks make me down and mean. I still wanted to have a fun and exciting time.

Now its 2015 over a year since that day and still I will never forget it. Sometimes when I am doing math or drawing or even reading I will look down at my arm and see that scar and remember everything. I used to have a burning or even numbness in my head that I have not felt in at least a month or two. But I still sometimes bump my head or itch my head too hard and that feeling will come back. I’m glad that I have those reminders. I’m not saying that i’m glad that I got hurt. I’m saying that when I look down at my arm it reminds me that I was lucky and I need to think through things a little more to make sure I’m being safe. My life changed a lot in just a few short seconds.
